The Central Library of the Göttingen State and University Library offers all the services of a modern academic library on 22,000 square metres.

The library will be closed on 1 May 2024 (May Day) and 9 May 2024 (Ascension Day) as well as on 19 and 20 May 2024 (Whitsun).

How to get to the Central Library

By public transport

By bus from the train station

The bus lines 21 (Nikolausberg) and 23 (Faßberg) will take you to the "Platz der Göttinger Sieben" bus stop in close proximity to the Central Library. From there, you will be able to see the characteristic rotunda, which houses the main entrance to the Central Library.

On foot from the train station

The Central Library is about 10 minutes' walk from the train station. Leave the station via the exit "Zentrum", turn right and continue along the Berliner Straße. Cross at the junction of Berliner Straße and Weender Landstraße and turn left until you reach the "Auditorium" bus stop. From there, you will be able to see the characteristic rotunda, which houses the main entrance to the Central Library.

By car

From Kassel

Take the A7 exit "Göttingen" and drive all the way down Kasseler Landstraße in the direction of "Stadtmitte / Hauptbahnhof". Turn left onto Berliner Straße and continue straight on until you reach the junction of Berliner Straße and Weender Landstraße.
Turn left on the junction Berliner Straße / Weender Landstraße. The university pay-parking facility on Weender Landstraße is located on your right.

From Hanover

Take the A7 exit "Göttingen-Nord" and follow the feeder road until you reach Hannoversche Straße. Turn right towards "Stadtmitte".
To use the university pay-parking facilities on Weender Landstraße (see map), turn left onto Kreuzbergring. The parking access is located at the start of Kreuzbergring.
You may also drive straight on to the junction of Weender Landstraße and Berliner Straße and turn left onto Nikolausberger Weg. Past the library (glass building), turn left onto Goßlerstraße. Here you can use metered parking spaces (2 h) to the left of the barrier leading to the staff car park or the pay-parking garage at the end of Goßlerstraße on the right.
