Cooperation with science publisher Springer: Open access with Springer Open Choice English

external linkSpringer Publishing House with its more than 1,700 journals is one of the biggest academic publishers in the world. Its programme comprises journals of all fields of knowledge with special focus on sciences, technology, medicine (STM) as well as economics, architecture and traffic.

Beside the traditional channels of publication, which make articles accessible only to those who pay for the subscription or licence, Springer Publisher also offers the option of author-financed open access publication of articles (external linkSpringer Open Choice). Using the open access way they are available on the internet as whole texts to everybody free of charge.

Due to an accord of Goettingen SUB with external linkSpringer Publishing House all papers by authors (corresponding authors as well as co-authors) of Goettingen University accepted for publication automatically become open access articles via external linkSpringer Open Choice. Articles, which have passed the quality check, are published simultaneously via the publisher's portal SpringerLink (and the respective print journal) and via the academic publications server of Goettingen University external linkGoeScholar.

The publications process for the authors is as follows:

  • Articles are to be submitted - as usual - directly to the journal. In case your paper was accepted for publication, Springer will send you an e-mail containing a URL-address. Via said URL you have to identify yourself (as first step) as member of “Göttingen University – Germany”. Your article will be published automatically according to the Open Choice agreement. Furthermore the whole text (meta-data included) will be imported into GoeScholar on a regular basis and made available via Goettingen University publication server.

Co-authors should observe the following:

  • Please inform your corresponding author that you (in your capacity as co-author and faculty of Göttingen University) can benefit from the Open Choice agreement as well. The corresponding author will then have to authenticate you via “Göttingen University-Germany”. The whole text will be made available via GoeScholar, too.

If you are a project manager or apply for third-party funding please do not fail to include a request for a publication allowance (e.g. 750 Euros with DFG), in order to support our university in realizing its open access plan. If such funds have been granted already, you should contribute them to the process. Please contact SUB in such cases. These allowances will be needed for the pilot phase in principle. You will find further information about publication funds as part of your research applications on the web sites of external linkGerman Research Foundation (DFG), external linkMax Planck Society (Max-Planck-Gesellschaft), external linkVolkswagen Foundation (Volkswagen Stiftung), and additional funding institutions that support open access publication.
