Göttingen State and University Library is open to students and staff of Göttingen University as well as to all members of the public (minimum age 16). No registration is needed to use our resources and services on site at the library.
You need a library card to order items from our stacks, to check them out at our self-issue terminals and to reserve items currently on loan. Your library account lets you view and renew your loans and manage your reservations. With your library card, you are also entitled to place inter-library loan requests.
Your Göttingen student ID chip card is also your library card. The use of the library facilities is free of charge to students. Your library card number is given on the back of your student ID chip card ("0007"+ matriculation number, e.g. 00071234567). Your password will be assigned to you by the Office of Student Affairs upon matriculation.
Address changes should be registered via the self-service functions of the Office of Student Affairs.
You will have received your access information with your student ID chip card. Replacement ID cards can be requested at the chip card office in the main lecture hall building (ZHG).
Email address changes can only be made for individuals who have not yet been assigned a Göttingen University student account (in the format first name.last name). The associated email address is used as the contact address for the Göttingen State and University Library and cannot be changed.
