Second floor

On the second floor, there are numerous individual workstations, an extensive stock of freely accessible and systematically arranged research and study literature as well as equipment for printing, copying and scanning.

Jointly with studIT (IT service for students), we offer PCs in a designated workstation area. These computers enable students of the University of Göttingen and registered users of the SUB Göttingen to work with the electronic services of the library and other programmes as well as internet access after individual registration.

Two standing PCs are intended for quick research, whereby no registration is required on one device (PC with guest access).

Reference collections in the reading rooms of the Central Library

The freely accessible literature in the reading rooms of the Central Library is arranged according to subject groups.

The subject groups Law (notation ‘N’), History (notation ‘P’), Geography (notation ‘Q’) as well as Natural Sciences and Technology (notations ‘R - Z’) are situated on the second floor.

Ornithological Special Library (NOV)

The library of the NOV Niedersächsische Ornithologische Vereinigung e. V. (Lower Saxony Ornithological Association) presently contains about 2,500 volumes and about 40 current journals, mostly on the subject of ornithology, but also includes general natural history literature. It is managed cooperatively by the Göttingen State and University Library and the NOV.

This book section is located at the end of the fifth finger of the building, labelled with the shelve marks ‘NOV’. As it is a reference collection, books cannot be borrowed from there, but any interested person can use the holdings on site during opening hours.

Individual workstations

On the second floor you will find numerous individual workplaces, especially in the tips of the building’s fingers. Almost all workstations are equipped with a power connection and individual workstation lighting.

Group Study Areas

Would you like to learn in a group?

We offer specially equipped, noise-reduced group study areas.

In addition, a group study room for a maximum of eight people has been set up, which students can book via the online reservation system.

Parent-Child Room

Next to the group study room for students is a specially equipped parent-child room, which one to two student parents with child or children can book via the online reservation system. We can activate your student ID card for the use of the room upon request.

Print, Copy, Scan

When you come up the main staircase from the foyer, you will find a separate room to the right of the parent-child room with book scanners and multifunction devices (printing, copying, scanning).

You will also find correspondingly equipped rooms in the same place on the ground floor and the first floor.

If you have any questions about using the equipment, please contact the Information and Service staff on the ground floor.

Learning Resources Center (LRC)

The Learning Resources Center (LRC) is located on the second floor on the north side of the foyer.

The computer-based workstations of the LRC are open to all users of the SUB Göttingen. A special account is required for use, which is handed out to students upon enrolment, and to other user groups via the institution at which they are employed. Private and guest users of the SUB Göttingen can log on to these devices with the access data of their copy and print account.

Here it is possible to record, digitally edit and output textual and multimedia documents in self-service. The studIT staff will be happy to help you during information hours.

The LRC is a cooperation between studIT (IT Service for Students), the Göttingen State and University Library and the Gesellschaft für wissenschaftliche Datenverarbeitung Göttingen (GWDG).
