To mark Library Day, the SUB is opening doors and areas that are not usually accessible to the public. Guided tours of the Central Library and the restoration workshop in the Historic Building offer the chance to take a look behind the scenes and learn more about the work carried out at the library.
Special holdings and collections are also at the heart of the programme: talks will provide insights into old Luther prints, the map collection, treasures from the Americas collection and an Indian Bible manuscript. The programme also features the 1912 International Congress of Mathematicians. A guided tour of the Historic Building and a tour of the stacks by torchlight – specially organised for children – round off the programme.
Library Day has been held annually on 24 October since 1995. This nationwide day of action draws attention to the diverse range of services and resources offered by libraries and their importance as places of knowledge, education and culture.
Programme and Registration
Admission is free. Due to limited places, registration is required for most programme items; this can be done in advance via the website or, if places are still available, on the day.
Please note: the event will be held in German. A good command of German is recommended.
