Teaching with Historical Collections

Incorporate historical materials into your teaching – our seminar rooms in the Historic Building provide the perfect setting.

Services for Seminars

We offer a wide range of services to University of Göttingen lecturers, supporting the use of historical sources in their teaching.

  • Seminar rooms: Our specially equipped rooms in the Historical Building are available for classes involving historical materials.
  • Presenting historical collections: Showcase selected historical materials as part of your teaching in the Historical Building. Upon request, we can assist you in selecting suitable items.
  • Introductions and training: We provide guidance on research and handling of historical materials to help students gain hands-on experience with historical collections.
  • Modern analytical techniques: Explore historical materials using digital microscopy, multispectral imaging, or infrared reflectography. We offer introductions to these technologies and their applications within courses.

Please note that our services depend on the availability of rooms, equipment, and staff. We kindly ask you to allow sufficient lead time:

  • Room bookings: at least two to four weeks in advance
  • Consultations, tours, and training sessions: four to six weeks in advance

We are happy to support your teaching activities and look forward to your inquiry!

Visualizer for Teaching Purposes

We provide a WolfVision visualizer for teaching with our collections. It projects pages from manuscripts, printed works, and maps live via a projector, giving even large groups a detailed view of the material. The optical zoom enables high-resolution display of even the smallest details.

The mobile visualizer can be used in different rooms and is suitable for hybrid or fully digital sessions. Interested in using the visualizer? Get in touch with us at hsd@sub.uni-goettingen.de.
