The staff at the reception desk will be happy to help you with initial orientation questions and are available as contact persons during the entire opening hours of the Central Library.

At this desk - as at all our service desks - you will receive information on orientation in the building and on our services. This is also where library cards are issued to private individuals. Further information on registration and the link to the online registration form can be found here.

At two self-service cashpoints in the entrance area of the Central Library, you can transfer money to your print and copy account, make deposits to your inter-library loan account, and pay overdue fines. To top up the required credit on your student card or library card at the card charger in the foyer of the Central Library, you can use an EC card or a credit card.

Behind the reception desk you will find our self-checkout terminal where you can return borrowed media during all opening hours.

Passing the reception desk, the staircase will take you to the reading rooms on the first and second floors and to the Learning Resources Center (LRC) on the second floor. For people with walking disabilities or parents with strollers, an elevator is available to the first and second floors.

Lockers & Toilets

From the foyer, a staircase leads down to the lockers and toilets. Please lock your coats, jackets and bags in the lockers before entering the reading rooms. Please note that you will need a valid library card to do this. People with walking disabilities can obtain keys for the lockers at the reception desk, which are located on the ground floor behind the reception desk.

In the self-pickup area next to the information and service desk you will find media from the closed stacks of the Central Library that you can borrow. Please request the desired items via GöDiscovery or the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK).

Please borrow items from one of the two self-checkout machines. Requested items that can only be used in the library (reference collection) can be obtained from the information desk.

If you have any queries about your requests, the staff at our information and service desk will be happy to help. This is also where you can obtain interlibrary loans, i.e. works that you have ordered from other libraries, to borrow or use in the library. We also issue materials such as microforms and loose-leaf collections at this desk.
