GEOROC is one of the largest geochemical databases worldwide, hosting a collection of over 2 million published analyses of igneous rocks (volcanic rocks, plutonic rocks, minerals, and mantle xenoliths). The project DIGIS will continue the highly successful GEOROC database and will considerably expand its capabilities to deliver maximum service to the community and implementation of FAIR data principles (findable, accessible, interoperable, reusable). The aim of the project ist to maintain the high standards and comprehensive collection that GEOROC is known for, whilst improving metadata structure and user accessibility. DIGIS will provide new means of data harvesting and data entry as well as stable and streamlined connections with other geochemical databases, such as EarthChem of the Interdisciplinary Earth Data Alliance (IEDA). The scientific development of ’GEOROC 2.0’ and the re-organisation of its IT infrastructure will enable extension to a more diverse range of geochemical data and facilitate sustainability in future Earth Science research by ensuring continued open access to a FAIR database.
