GEZ-N - Project details (Gemeinsame Elektronische Zeitschriftenbibliothek - Niedersachsen)

Joint electronic journals library for Lower Saxony

The GEZ-N Project was set up to develop an electronic journals library for Lower Saxony that would later be extended to all of the GBV. The library would also include conventional journals.
The goal of the project was to complement the OnlineContents's printed journal content with as complete as possible indexing of the contents of electronic journals and to make them available over local OPACs as well as through the GBV's catalogue in PICA. The e-lib system was be used for the Internet presentation in addition to being used as an instrument for content indexing the electronic journals. This involved application of the prototype for a decentralized electronic library developed at the math and computer department at the University of Osnabrueck as part of a DFG project. As envisaged by the DFG, the system had been developed with the idea of its being applied elsewhere.
The e-lib (electronic library) is an index system for electronic items present only on the Internet and that provides a link between electronic and printed journals that are published in parallel as well as a link to the local OPAC. The catalogued titles found can be sought in subject lists and using a search engine. The contents of the electronic journals are indexed, and an additional search engine can used for searching on the article level.
