General Linguistics and Literary Studies

The SUB Göttingen has a large collection on general linguistics and literary studies. The main holdings are located in the Central Library. Various catalogues and databases are available for research.

Catalogues

The Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK) lists local holdings, including e-media and databases licensed for the campus, as well as a wide range of freely accessible or open access resources.

GöDiscovery provides access to books, journals, databases and a large number of journal articles - both from the holdings of SUB Göttingen and the departmental libraries, as well as from external sources. By default, the search is limited to local holdings; the search scope can be expanded via the settings.

Books

Printed Books

Literature on general linguistics and literary studies is primarily located in the open-shelf collection of the Central Library on the 1st floor, Wing I. In addition, further literature is available in the Library of the Institute for Linguistics, the Library of the German Department, the Library of the English Department, and the Cultural Studies Divisional Library (BBK).

Books published before 1900 are kept in the Historical Building.

Books stored in the closed stacks can be requested via the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK) or GöDiscovery.

 E-Books

Within the campus network, e-books can be searched for and accessed directly via the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK) or GöDiscovery. In addition, e-books are available through subject-specific databases and interdisciplinary databases, such as the National License Collections of Monographs.

University members can access licensed titles from outside the campus network via eduVPN oder Shibboleth.

Book not available?

If a book you are looking for is not available in Göttingen, you can request it via inter-library loan or submit a  purchase suggestion

Students who require a textbook for a course assignment also have the option to use the book acquisition programme for Göttingen University students.

Journals

Printed and electronic editions of subject-relevant journals can be found in the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK) and in GöDiscovery. The Electronic Journals Library (EZB) provides a subject-based overview and uses a traffic light system to indicate availability and access levels. Titles licensed for the campus can also be accessed off-campus via eduVPN oder Shibboleth

Relevant print journals are freely accessible in the Central Library on the 1st floor, Wing II. Additional titles and older volumes can be requested from the stacks.

Databases

Licensed  databases are listed in the Göttingen University Catalogue (GUK) and in GöDiscovery.  These databases can also be accessed via the Database Information System (DBIS), which offers an extended selection, including freely accessible resources.

The databases are organised by subject area, particularly recommended 'top databases' are listed at the top of each subject page. Access to the databases is indicated by a traffic light system.

University members can also access the available databases off-campus via eduVPN or Shibboleth.
