Göttingen State and University Library owns outstanding holdings for historical research. The history of the Anglo-American cultural area (Great Britain and Ireland, USA and Canada, Australia and New Zealand) is particularly well represented. The Library of Anglo-American Culture & History is especially dedicated to the services connected with this part of the collection.
Use this specialist subject page to begin your search under the heading 'Systematic Search' in a systematic online catalogue of acquisitions from 1995 onwards (approx. 110,000 titles). This will give you quick access to the more recent research literature on the subject available at Göttingen State and University Library. Here you will also find the most important more recent compendiums and reference texts as well as our new acquisitions.
The History Guide is a subject specific catalogue of selected history websites. A selection of important subject databases provides access to further specialist bibliographies and to full text and factual databases.
Additionally, historians will find literature relevant at Goettingen University in the Cultural Studies Divisional Library as well as in the Library of the former Max Planck Institute for History, located in our Historical Building. Interesting sources and older literature are provided by our historical collections (manuscripts, scholarly papers, historic printed collections, maps).
