Guided Tours

Discover the SUB Göttingen from a new perspective: Our guided tours will give you an insight into the collections, work areas and services of one of Germany's most important research libraries.

Guided Tour of the Historical Building

In an approximately one-hour tour through the Historical Building of the SUB Göttingen, you will learn details about the history of the library and its premises. The tour includes a visit to the Pauliner Church, the Alfred Hessel Hall and the Heyne Hall and takes place every last Thursday of the month at 16:00.

We recommend the guided tours to all those interested in cultural and scientific history. Please note that not all of these rooms can always be offered for viewing due to events. If you are particularly interested in one of the rooms, we would therefore ask you to make prior arrangements by telephone.

During the tour, you’ll get a concise overview of the main areas, services and resources available at the Central Library – to help you get started using the library. We’ll meet in the foyer – no booking is required. Just pop in and get to know the SUB’s largest site in a concise way.

Guided Tours Through the Stacks of the Central Library

How does your book order get from the underground stacks to the pick-up area? Where are the majority of the SUB's printed holdings stored? And are there actually books under the Platz der Göttinger Sieben?

On our guided tour of the stacks, you will discover the three floors below the Central Library, take a look at the main distribution room, get to know our shelving systems and the book conveyor system - and find out what special types of media we store alongside books: from microfiche to vinyl records.
