Tasks and Responsabilites

The GDZ digitises historical and academically relevant sources, including:

  • Archival records
  • Printed works and manuscripts
  • Maps
  • Estates and collections

Specialised digitisation techniques are used to digitise even fragile originals gently and to a high standard. The materials are systematically catalogued, processed and made available for research, teaching and study.

Access and Use

With more than 15 million digitised pages, the GDZ offers an extensive collection for research, teaching and study worldwide in its digital presentation.

The digitised materials are made available to the scientific and general public and are also integrated into national and international portals such as Deutsche Digitale Bibliothek (German Digital Library) and Europeana.

Services

As an institution of SUB Göttingen, the GDZ makes the unique collections of one of Germany’s leading academic libraries available in digital form. In addition, it advises on and supports digitisation projects on the Göttingen campus and within the university’s numerous significant collections, works closely with specialist information services (FID), and offers specialised services for students with visual impairments.
