Diensteportal Digitalisierung
Development of a multifunctional, multilateral service portal for the production and presentation of digital media from DFG-funded and other projects
Upon completion of the project, a comprehensive software solution for mass digitization will be available—one that is freely accessible, versatile, and highly adaptable. Thanks to a highly modular design, open-source programming, and extensive documentation, any library adopting the software can customize the suite’s components to meet its specific needs, add proprietary modules, and integrate the system into its existing IT infrastructure. Alternatively, hosting and technical support are available through SLUB Dresden or the Göttingen Digitization Centre (GDZ).
The software solution seamlessly supports the entire digitization workflow, from initial production to online presentation. This dramatically lowers barriers to entry and significantly reduces the effort required for the production, retrieval, and presentation of digital assets.
This development builds upon existing tools—specifically a workflow tool (at the GDZ) and an interactive presentation system featuring numerous web services (at SLUB)—which are now being combined and further developed into an integrated digitization platform. The keen interest already shown by major academic libraries in these software solutions highlights not only the widespread demand for modern IT infrastructure for generating and presenting digital assets but also the sustainability of the concept. Furthermore, it demonstrates the tremendous synergistic benefits that can be achieved through software standardization across the German library landscape.
