KIM I
Competence Center for Interoperable Metadata as a DCMI Affiliate in the German-speaking region
The DFG-funded project KIM aims to establish the Competence Center for Interoperable Metadata (KIM) as a DCMI Affiliate for the German-speaking region, thereby representing the interests of the research, public sector, and industry communities within international standardization bodies.
Following the project's conclusion, KIM will serve the German-speaking region as a DCMI Affiliate in collaboration with partners in Austria and Switzerland.
A core working group will develop a shared understanding of "good practice" regarding the application of both the Dublin Core and Semantic Web models by evaluating existing application profiles. This understanding will form the basis for certification procedures, education and training programs, and consultancy services in the field of interoperable metadata. Furthermore, such an understanding will facilitate—or indeed enable—standardized search processes and data exchange between heterogeneous systems.
As with the German Initiative for Network Information (DINI), a sustainable and robust organizational structure is intended to ensure the long-term success and operation of the German-speaking DCMI Affiliate.
