nestor II

During the nestor I project period (2003–2006), the predecessor project identified the significance and potential of the long-term archiving of digital resources and initiated collaborations. These collaborations are now being expanded, and the further development of shared technical and organizational solutions is being driven forward.
Going beyond the previous scope, nestor II will integrate long-term archiving with new approaches from the e-Science initiative and grid computing.
By the end of the project funding period, nestor will transition into a permanent organizational structure capable of coordinating issues related to the long-term archiving of digital resources in Germany on a long-term basis.
Among other responsibilities, the SUB leads the "Education and Training" work package; in this capacity, it conducts courses, organizes and records nestor seminars, and produces educational materials. Furthermore, the Göttingen State and University Library (SUB Göttingen) has assumed leadership and coordination for several nestor working groups (metadata standards, long-term archiving, and e-Science) and oversees a nestor expert study on "synergy potential between grid and e-Science technologies for long-term archiving."
