Development of a central national portal for digitized printed works
The "Central Register of Digitized Prints" (zvdd) is a collaborative project involving the AG SDD (Collection of German Prints) and the library network centers VZG and HBZ. Its primary objective is to provide a record of all works printed in the German-speaking world or in the German language, provided they are available in fully digitized form. Through various browsing options and search interfaces, the portal aims to provide access to both large-scale retrospective digitization projects and individual works (including, where applicable, those with more detailed cataloging). A central zvdd data repository is populated via data exports and OAI interfaces from libraries, and its content is made available for further use cases—again via OAI. Initially, the portal focuses on major projects (such as those funded by the DFG)—for which it is intended to serve as a registry in the medium term—and on recording bibliographic metadata. Plans for expansion and greater depth of detail are scheduled for later project phases.
