The Medical Library (BBM) supplies information and literature on human medicine and dentistry.

The Medical Library will be open 21 December until 23 December and from 27 December until 30 December 2024 from 10:00 to 20:00.
The library will be closed from 24 December until 26 December 2024 and from 31 December until 1 January 2025.

Our services

We are happy to assist you with any questions you may have about the use of the library and to assist you in finding and borrowing specialist literature.

We offer:

  • freely accessible and systematically categorised monographs, textbooks, periodicals, manuals and encyclopedias (approximately 130,000 volumes in total)
  • 220 individual work places
  • 76 individual work places with PC equipment
  • 168 group work places (with 25 PCs)
  • a lounge area (36 seats)
  • 9 mute boxes for up to 4 persons, 2 mute boxes for 1 person
  • further mobile workplaces and work options such as work booths, acoustic seating caves as well as height-adjustable and mobile desks for individual and group use
  • 8 standing workstations
  • two treadmills
  • a power-generating desk bike
  • 2 modern multifunctional devices (black and white and colour) with the function ‘copying’ (billing with library card / institute copy card) as well as the free function ‘Scan-to-USB’
  • 2 high-performance multifunction devices available for direct printing and follow-me printing as well as for ‘Scan-to-USB’ and ‘Scan-to-Mail’ (for students only)
  • 1 book scanner for free ‘Scan-to-USB’ use
  • besides you can use and test two 3D printers (printing material: PLA), a 3D scanner, a 3D anatomic table and a poster printer
  • for medical students only: a spiral binder

Literature not available at the Göttingen State and University Library can be ordered by way of inter-library loan or document delivery services.

The Department of Medical Statistics of the UMG will advise you on biometric questions within these hours in the rooms of the Medical Library.

The library staff will advise you on all matters relating to library use and are also available to answer library-specific questions during opening hours without making an appointment: Literature and subject research, user account management, placing inter-library loan orders, database research, electronic library, etc.

By public transport

From the train station

The bus lines 21 and 23 (direction Nikolausberg / Faßberg) depart from the bus terminal at the train station and go to the stop "Klinikum". Walk a few metres back from the direction of the bus to the stairs (a lift is located on the opposite side). The main entrance to the University Medical Center is at the top of the stairs. The way to the library is sign-posted.

From the city centre

The bus lines 22, 41 and 42 (stop Weender Straße Ost) go to the stop "Klinikum".

By car

Leave the motorway A 7 via the exit "Göttingen-Nord". Follow the B 27 in the direction "Duderstadt / Göttingen-Nord / Braunlage" for about 4.5 km. Turn right into the driveway towards the University Medical Center. Keep right after about 150 m to enter Robert Koch Straße, and turn left at the crossroads after about 600 m towards the University Medical Center.

The parking facilities here are pay-parking only.
